So...Casey Anthony is not done. Now, she has to face the nanny she accused of taking Caylee. The nanny is suing her in a defamation lawsuit. However, in most defamation lawsuits, doesn't your character have to be publicly defamed? Who remembers that she accused the nanny? This to me reads like another case of someont trying to get in on the action.
I am not surprised the media is putting coverage on such a non-story of a lawsuit (a lawsuit that probably does not have enough evidence to get past a grand jury or preliminary hearing). Not surprising though that the media would cover this. Its in their best interest to make Casey look bad to protect what they have been saying for so long. Plus, the real defamation lawsuit that should be placed is against the media (specifically Nancy Grace) by Casey Anthony. Whether or not Casey did it, there was not enough evidence to convict her and it not fair to her that she is convicted in the court of public opinion. She will face the same fate as OJ's except the evidence (if not countered by his stellar legal team) could have easily convicted him beyond a reasonable doubt.
At the time, everyone pretty much knew OJ did it and that Cochran had practiced some deft lawyering skills and poked a couple minor holes (evidence could have been tampered with and one of the cops was possibly a racist). Also, a star athlete who has always had opposing fans boo him can take it easier. However, a 25 year old mother already proven not to be very stable and may have lost her daughter (and been accused of murdering her) is not likely to be in a state to handle mobs and death threats. She will never win a normal life and she has the media to thank for that.
If someone takes another's life, it is fair to lock them up and not let them live a "normal life". However, to sentence someone to that fate without evidence is just cruel.
